Project Information

Celebrating Life! is a juried fine art competition for active adults 50 and better sponsored by the Las Vegas Arts Commission. The exhibit is held at the Charleston Heights Art Center during the late spring and early summer. Afterwards winning art works will be shown in City Hall. All artists that were not jurried in have the option to participate in the Salon de Refuse in the Charleston Heights Art Center Gallery. Artworks are seperated into six categories including: Drawing/Pastel, Painting, Mixed Media, Photography, Sculpture, and Watercolor.

2012 Jurors:
Bill Leaf received a M.F.A. in Sculpture and Graphics
at the University of California, Davis in 1968. He
taught art at UNLV From 1973-2005 and is presently
Professor Emeritus. He has been in approximately
14 solo exhibits since 1992 as well as several group
exhibits in that same period. His artwork is in the
collection of Rio Hotel, Las Vegas, Household Credit
Services, Inc. and the Kyo Bashi Art Gallery.

Jim Pink received his Master’s degree at the
University of South Florida with an emphasis in
drawing and printmaking in 1980. He has been a
professor at UNLV since 1987 and is now Professor
Emeritus. He served as graduate coordinator there
for 9 years. He has been in approximately 21 solo
exhibits, 129 group/invitational exhibits and 90
exhibit competitions. He was awarded a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the Las Vegas Arts
Commission last year. From 1994-2005 he served
on the Jacob Javits Foundation which has involved
awarding fellowships nationally to the strongest
graduate students. Pink’s artwork is part of many
public, private and corporate collections including
the Art Institute of Chicago and Chase Manhattan
Bank.

Mary Warner came to Las Vegas in 1989 as a
visiting artist for the UNLV Art Department. In 1992
she became a UNLV Art Department faculty member.
She has received two Nevada State Fellowships,
most recently 2008-9, also 1993. She was also a
recent recipient of a Bemis Residency award for
the fall of 2008. She has had one person shows at
the Nevada Museum of Art, Reno; Weigland Gallery,
Fallon; four one person exhibits at the Donna Beam
Gallery, most recently 2009. She had a number of
exhibits at the now defunct Lisa Livingstone Gallery,
Mark Masuoka Gallery and Small Works Gallery all
in Las Vegas. More recently she has had two one
person shows at the Trifecta Gallery owned by
artist, Marty Walsh. She has shown widely outside
of Nevada (Sherry Frumkin Gallery, L.A., Limn
Gallery, San Francisco, JAYJAY Gallery, Sacramento
and Sandy Carson Gallery, Denver, Drawing Center,
NYC ). She is active in the local community as
she was one of the founding members of the
(now) Contemporary Art Center, serving as vicepresident
for a number of years and curating a
number of exhibitions. She also served on the Las
Vegas Arts Commission and received a Community
Achievement award in 1999 from the Las Vegas
Chamber of Commerce.
