Celebrating Life! is a juried fine art competition for active adults 50 and better sponsored by the Las Vegas Arts Commission. The exhibit is held at the Charleston Heights Art Center during the late spring and early summer. Afterwards winning art works will be shown in City Hall at the Bridge Gallery. All artists that were not jurried in have the option to participate in the Salon de Refuse in the Charleston Heights Art Center Gallery. Artworks are seperated into six categories including: Drawing/Pastel, Painting, Mixed Media, Photography, Sculpture, and Watercolor.

2011 Jurors:
Stewart Freshwater has been a practicing artist in Southern Nevada for more than 40 years. During that time, he has developed his art skills and visual sensitivity as a fine artist and graphic illustrator. Stewart’s work is esteemed because of his attention to draughtsman-ship, combined with creative, incongruous and sometimes humorous imagery. He is known for his ‘drawn-live’ drawings of musicians and figures. He has organized a life drawing workshop for approximately twenty years. Stewart’s artworks have been displayed regionally and nationally in group and single person exhibits.
Suzanne F. Hackett-Morgan holds a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Western Washington University, and completed a master’s degree in art (painting) at California State University Northridge in 2003. She received recognition in 2006 from the Nevada Arts Council’s Artist Fellowship Program. Hackett-Morgan is a founding director of the Goldwell Open Air Museum and served as vice president and president of Las Vegas’ Contemporary Arts Collective in 1994 and 1995.
Her paintings have been exhibited in Montana, Nevada, Wisconsin and California, including several public art commissions in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Her mural, “Here it is” was recently included in The Killers CD, “Sam’s Town.”
Bobbie Ann Howell, a native Nevadan, attended school in Indian Springs and Las Vegas. Her Bachelor of Fine Arts is from Abilene Christian University, Abilene, Texas, and taught at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Drawing from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Ill.
Howell began teaching as adjunct faculty at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and at the College of Southern Nevada since 1988. She has served a variety of arts organizations, was director of education for the Nevada Institute for Contemporary Arts, manager and educational coordinator at the Rio Hotel & Casino’s Treasures of Russia Exhibition, exhibition from the Peterhof Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Clear Channel Corporation’s Titanic: The Exhibition, for the Nevada Arts Council as community arts development program associate, a cultural center coordinator for the
city of Las Vegas and she currently works
with Nevada Humanities.
